Compress PDF

Reduce your PDF file size with adjustable quality settings.

Shrink PDF file size for free while keeping it readable — ideal for email attachments and uploads. Everything runs entirely in your browser — your files are never uploaded to a server, so your data stays private on your device.

When file size becomes a problem

Most email providers cap attachments around 25 MB, and plenty of online forms and application portals set their own, often stricter, limits. A PDF full of high-resolution scans or photos can easily blow past these caps, leaving you with a bounced email or a rejected upload right when you need the document to go through. Compression brings the file back under those limits without you having to remove pages or reduce what the document actually contains.

What actually makes a PDF large

In most PDFs, embedded images are by far the biggest contributor to file size — far more than the text itself, which is already very compact. Compression targets those images specifically, re-encoding them at a size and quality that keeps the page looking sharp on screen and in print while cutting away the excess data. Text-heavy documents with few or no images were already small to begin with, so you will see the largest size reductions on scanned documents, photo-filled reports and image-heavy brochures.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on the content — image-heavy PDFs shrink the most, while text-only PDFs are already compact.

Will compression ruin the quality?

Compression aims to keep documents clearly readable; image-heavy files trade some image detail for a smaller size.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Compression runs locally in your browser.
